Located in Shuanghai Village of Beihai Town that is about 10km north to Tengchong County, Beihai National Wetland Reserve is the only national natural wetland reserve in Yunnan.
Beihai wetland consists of two natural lakes – Qinghai Lake and Beihai Lake. Though the distance between the two lakes is less than 1000m, they have quite different styles due to the difference in altitude and environment. With an altitude of 1950m, over 200m higher than Beihai Lake, Qinghai Lake sits among the mountains of east part of Qinghai Lake and is a typical mountain lake. The lake water is slightly acid and the lake is one of the only three acid lakes in the world.
